One of the fastest ways a family protects itself is by punishing the person who names the pattern.

The person notices contradiction, favoritism, revision, volatility, selective memory, atmosphere shifts, unspoken alliances, impossible standards, recurring guilt structures, or the quiet rules nobody is supposed to say aloud. They name what keeps repeating. The response is rarely curiosity.
